Branched trichain sulfosuccinates as novel water in CO2 dispersants
A series of highly branched trichain sulfosuccinate surfactants have been synthesized and studied in condensed CO2 and aqueous environments. Aqueous critical micelle concentrations (CMCs) showed a general trend of increasing CMC with decreasing chain length, whereas increased branching appeared to increase solubility in CO2 and aid the dispersion of water. Near infrared spectra confirmed observ...
متن کاملSolubilization of water by dialkyl sodium sulfosuccinates in hydrocarbon solutions.
The apparent solubilization of water in hydrocarbon solvents by the addition of 0.1% to 2.0% w/w di-(2-ethylhexyl) sodium sulfosuccinate (AOT) has been studied. In n-octane and n-decane, transitions of clear-turbid-clear-turbid were observed with increasing water content, whereas in dodecane, tetradecane, hexadecane, cyclohexane, and toluene only one clear-turbid transition was seen. Separation...
متن کاملPreparation of unsaturated polyesters using boric acid as mild catalyst and their sulfonated derivatives as new family of degradable polymer surfactants
Boric acid-pyridine mixture is presented as mild catalyst for polycondensation of semi-esters of ethylene glycol, in situ-generated by “cyclic anhydrideediol” reaction scheme from maleic, succinic and phthalic anhydrides. This catalyst system was demonstrated to give colorless polyesters in low molecular weights (Mn: 1650e1950 Da) within 4 h at 130 C 1H NMR spectra of the polyesters derived fro...
متن کاملSurfactants as stimulants of enzyme production by microorganisms.
The addition of Tween 80 and sucrose monopalmitate, nonionic surfactants, to fungal cultures resulted in marked increases in yields of the enzymes cellulase, amylase, sucrase, beta-1 --> 3 glucanase, xylanase, purine nucleosidase, and benzoyl esterase. The action appears to be an effect of the surfactant on cell permeability.
متن کاملInsects had it first: surfactants as a defence against predators.
Insects have evolved an astonishing array of defences to ward off enemies. Well known and widespread is the regurgitation of oral secretion (OS), fluid that repels attacking predators. In herbivores, the effectiveness of OS has been ascribed so far to the presence of deterrent secondary metabolites sequestered from the host plant. This notion implies, however, that generalists experience less p...
